Anniversary
Their fiftieth was tranquil gold with silver hair, savored quietly together in a sunny park. Gifts and dinner with the kids would come later – this was their time.
They watched a younger couple drift by: glittering rings, trendy clothes, and loud, animated conversation.
“Newlyweds,” she said softly, wistfully. “Remember? We were them once.”
“We sure were,” he said. “And if they’re lucky, maybe some day they’ll be us.”
