A Greek Tragedyb Henry Lewi ice cold water

Professor ZA Daimon was a distinguished Liver Surgeon who had set up the world-renowned Department of Liver Regenerative Surgery in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado.  The department not only dealt with complex Liver cases but also ran a robust Liver Transplant Service and a ‘Hepatic Regeneration Research Programme’.  This unique programme was aimed at stimulating damaged livers to regenerate thus removing the need for seriously ill patients to undergo complex medical or surgical treatments, and avoid the necessity of a liver transplant.

The programme had for many years been shrouded in secrecy and it was rumoured that much of the research and patient treatment protocols were being carried out at their laboratory facilities based in Leadville Colorado, high up in the Rocky Mountains.

However, a recent publication in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine authored by the Professor and his research team, stunned the medical world, as it described their early success in inducing liver regeneration using a therapeutic programme called the ‘Aetos Dios Chain Stimulation Of Liver Cells’, using short chain peptides that stimulated both Cytokines and Inflammasomes allowing liver cells to regrow normally.  It was now being rumoured that the Professor and his team were in line for the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

The Department of Liver Regenerative Surgery continued to run smoothly until it was abruptly closed down following the scandal involving the treatment of the popular President of Greece Prometeo Lapetionides and the sudden disappearance of Professor ZA Daimon.

The deeply jaundiced President had been transferred to the department in end stage liver failure, and the treatment options that were offered were those of either a liver transplant or the experimental but seemingly successful Liver Regeneration Therapy.  Naturally the President chose the option of liver Regeneration and was transferred to the laboratory and patient facilities in Leadville Colorado, high up in the Rocky Mountains.

The night before the treatment was due to begin, The Professor chose to explain the complex therapeutic protocol to the President personally, and witnesses claimed that both the Professor and President of Greece could be heard arguing; with the Professor loudly stating ‘I know you well, Prometeo Lapetionides or whatever you’re calling yourself nowadays, I know you very well, did you think you could hide from me all these years? Look at what your supposed gift has done. Well it is what it is, and now I’ve the perfect cure for your problem.’

At that point in front of the gathered staff The President of Greece, Prometeo Lapetionides and Professor ZA Daimon both left the laboratory complex but failed to return.

The next morning the President of Greece, Prometeo Lapetionides was found chained to the rocks at the highest point of the Rockies outside Leadville, Colorado guarded by a Giant Golden Eagle, but surprisingly he seemed in good health; his liver had healed and regrown, his jaundice now cleared, and alongside him was a a message seared into the rocks which read, ‘The Gift Of Fire Can Only Come From Zeus.’

The popular President of Greece, Prometeo Lapetionides previously known as Prometheus son of Lapetus, remained in good health for many, many years, but wherever he went he was always accompanied by his Golden Eagle that he had named Aetos Dios, or the Eagle of Zeus.

The distinguished Professor Zeus Agathos Daimon was never seen again, it was rumoured that he’d returned to his ancestral home in the foothills of Mount Olympus; a village constantly shrouded by clouds and beset by thunderbolts of lightning, or as the locals called the fierce and violent weather ‘The Divine Tantrum of Zeus’; but nobody was really sure of the Professor’s whereabouts.
