Mocha by Adrienne Rex, mocha

Jack pushed down on the throttle a little more. Just a bit. Just enough. The crash would be instant, there wouldn’t be any pain, just an end, an end to all the pointlessness of it–

“Hey, you like mocha?” He blinked and turned. Tim was next to him, a coffee in hand.

“What?” Jack asked, having already processed the question. “Yeah. You got me coffee?”

“Yep.” Tim put it in the cup-holder between them. “You were looking tired. I was worried.”

Jack stared very hard at the coffee cup. “Oh. Thank you.”

“No problem.” Tim ducked out of the control room. Jack kept staring at the coffee, and slowly eased off the throttle.

All the train’s passengers made it safely to their destination.

About the author

Adrienne Rex is an aspiring author from Houston Texas. When she’s not making her daydreams pay rent (otherwise known as writing), she’s being dragged around by her dog on what may charitably be called a walk. She's been published by the Moonstone Arts Center, Gabby and Min’s Literary Review

Did you enjoy the story? Would you like to shout us a coffee? Half of what you pay goes to the writers and half towards supporting the project (web site maintenance, preparing the next Best of book etc.)
