Fickle Fortune

Patsy Collins
Blackcurrant Cordial
When Tony’s luck was good, he’d place his winnings on another race. And another. And another. His bets and winnings increased. He was filled with joy and confidence. He took his winnings home; gave his wife a small share. Almost enough for groceries and this month’s rent.
When Tony’s luck was bad, he quit betting; he wasn’t stupid. He drank instead, his anger increasing. He was filled with self loathing and frustration. He took his fury home; gave his wife a large share.
