Introduction
This collection is a collection of seventy stories, each 280 words. They were inspired by the first picture seen on my Twitter feed on a given day.
63. The Right Ditch
What the heck? Someone had even put a photo of him and his name on it. And the word "Reserved", just like you might for a table in a restaurant or a hotel room. It was a nice wide ditch and deep. It was absolutely filled with dirty water.
Suddenly he remembered the cold showers that had been a part of every weekday morning when he was at school. He only realised later that it was just the effect of the older boys, who went in first, and used up all the hot water. When he himself got older showers were hotter.
Well, a mere ditch wouldn't hurt that much would it.
He ran his fingers through his unruly blond hair and bit his lip. How had he got to this point? Oh yeah, that cocky little upstart he'd done battle with more recently. Ah, he'd won that round. That twerp had soon scampered away with his tail between his legs.
Oh, but that woman whom he had followed. She could never give a straight answer to anything. And she simpered and stuttered all the time. It made women look bad. He smiled to himself. That at least put the ladies back in their proper place.
But then there was this this major setback. And he had promised, hadn't he? The thing about the ditch. Darn. Didn't the idiots recognise a good metaphor when they fell into one?
Anyway, ditch the ditch idea. There was something much bigger and better to look forward to. He rubbed his hands together in glee and got back into the car. He would get some of his Polish friends to deal with the ditch.
