Cinnamon Comforts by Allison Symes, cinnamon tea,

The cinnamon tea accompanied, naturally, by a cinnamon swirl were just what Clara needed. It’d been a trying day by anyone’s standards and sometimes one just had to admit other species did do some things better.

All knew humans were the pain of every known universe (what kind of creature would knowingly pollute their own planet?) but they could brew tea and make pastries wonderfully.

For that, Clara blessed them. It stopped her cursing them given she’d been landed with the task of stopping them discovering her magical world. Her bosses had only picked her because she was old, Clara knew. Usually old fairy godmothers were put out to grass, often by making them face some dragon somewhere. It was assumed the dragon would take care of the godmother. And it had often worked. Saved the fairy government from paying out on oh so many pensions.

But not for Clara. She was in full receipt of hers and intended to keep on getting it too, along with the cinnamon tea and swirl.

Today it had been a close run thing. If any human slipped through, Clara knew she would be next on the “face the angry and huge dragon” rota.

Clara sipped her tea. Thank goodness, she had thought to make sure one wardrobe led absolutely nowhere. In the nick of time. Those wretched kids would have to go to some other fantasy world. They weren’t coming to hers.
